Can anyone direct me to where I can buy that Y cable online? I'm seeing a lot of different ones and am having a hard time figuring out which is the right one.

Related -- am I right that the idrive in this car won't be able to read the music library of any newer iphones (i.e. iphone 5 and up), even if I were to get a Y cable with a lightning connection?
did you ever figure this out? I have the connections usb and aux in the center console, but it will not recognize my ipod using the BMW cord.

After reading this thread I looked on Amazon and found this new Bluetooth adapter from Bovee:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0131P6P5E/

The USB and Aux cables are built in to the unit, so you can plug it directly in to the jacks in the center console. No need to buy a separate iPod cable. Works and sounds great! Best of all is that your phone can also be paired at the same time to the car's bluetooth connection, and switching between music (via Bovee) and phone calls (via the car bluetooth) is seamless and automatic.
