Valve cover gaskets

Has anyone here had any experiences with Elring valve cover gaskets? I am leaning towards buying the BMW OE gaskets. They come to 206 dollars from ECS Tuning. I can buy the Elring gaskets from FCP Euro for 46 dollars. I guess me question is, are the BMW OE gaskets worth the additional 160 dollars. I certainly don't mind spending the extra money just want to know if it is actually worth it

I agree. I feel the gaskets are more on how well they are installed

Why not purchase the bmw brand from fcp for $186 and free lifetime replacement? I know on the m54 engines just about everyone has had problems with non oem.

Valve cover gaskets

Victor Reinz makes great gaskets. The alternator gaskets are the same whether you have the alternator bracket or oil cooler. Both of the ones you referenced would be correct.

The BMW gaskets are NOT worth the increase in price. Buy from a reputable manufacturer.

I hAve heard good things on the Elring gaskets. I feel like a lot of it depends on how well they are installed. Either way the BMW brand or the Elring has lifetime warranty

I guess what was confused me on the alternator gasket was that additional piece on the one gasket

Reinz and Elring are pretty comparable. I had a great experience with Reinz so I would tend to go with them next.

One last thing before I order my parts. I was told to also replace the two o rings for the oil cooler. Does anyone know the part numbers for that? Thanks again

Alternator bracket gasket

On N62 engine without oil cooler installed, you MUST use the gasket without the middle crosspiece. Otherwise you will block oil flow completely and the engine will be scrap very soon after you start it. The gasket with the crosspiece forces oil flow to the cooler. You can use the one without the crosspiece for an engine without oil cooler, but your oil cooler will not work.

Good catch. Yes. Oil cooler means you need the gasket with the crossover section.

I never added an oil cooler so it seems I bought the correct gasket. The one without the crossover??
