2006 E60 M5 No Keys

I recently bought an M5 at auction with no keys. I ordered a new key through the dealer ($400 including comfort access coding). My issue is that the car won't recognize the key. The parts guy at the dealership told me to unlock the door with the metal key, insert the key fob into the steering column and hold it in for 30 secs with my foot on the brake. This doesn't work nor do any of the other suggestions I've tried.

After some research my thoughts are that there could be too many keys registered to the CAS module. I have the Protool app, but haven't quite figured out if I can remove keys from the CAS or if that's even possible.

Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated!

Did you check the battery? (car battery)

Yes. I bought a brand new battery as the old one was dead.

if you bought a key from the dealer for your m5.. then your m5 has a problem

does it crank? does it do anything?

the fob unlocks the doors?

is this the same guy with the other thread about how to get a key for my m5? (*sorry no you are 2 different groups)

ok... so lets start this diag with a no start

Key fob does nothing except display the "no key" symbol when inserted in the dash. I can hear the relay clicking in the glove box when I attempt to start, but nothing happens. Pushing the buttons on the fob does nothing. No idrive display, no accessories, no window function (windows do roll up/down with the metal key inserted into the the door and held in the lock/unlock position). The steering wheel is currently locked to the left, but i'm assuming (if working correctly) this will unlock once a key is recognized.

I have checked all fuses for continuity and all tested good and none are missing. I can hear the fuel pump kick on when the I open the drivers door.

No valet key in the glove box. Suprising there is a parts bag for a new key that was ordered from a dealership at the end of last year.

Below are the only codes present. There were 35 yesterday, but most were related to low voltage before replacing the battery.

So I did some more investigating. For some reason I am unable to reset the CAS ECU or sycronize the CAS with the DME. Is this normal, or could this be the source of the problem. I get the following error when I attempt to reset the ECU. I am able to reset other ECU's in the vehicle.

Sounds like you should take the new key and the car to the dealership and have them fix it. Would hate to see you make it worse poking around.

Depends on condition. Mine was a bank repo (hence no keys). I paid $5k for it. The body is straight with no major damage. Not sure of the engine condition. It looks good, but don't know if it runs. It does have a clean title though!

so why not just drop the thing off at the dealer ?

you have keys which probably are not the keys, because someone else probably just got keys

you say the actual key in the fob unlocks the door but the car does not start,

you said you found a dealer receipt (which correct me if im thinking of another thread ) for a dealer key, (*what part number was that on that paper?)

you have a CAS error.. its probably just a keyboard away from running, you should just pay the dealer to fix the cas and drive it home.. and give it some love,

OR if you really want pay the dealer for its first dealer oil change in a while..

Bring it home.. flushs everything

youll get a running car, and list of dealer recommendations

There's a white one for sale in Dallas. Think they want 13k for it. Might need some work.

I bought a new key from the dealership using the car's Vin. The metal key will unlock the doors, but the fob is unresponsive and will not do anything.

Dealership is 50 miles away and I will have to tow it. I really dont want to tow it there and then tow it back in the event it doesn't run once the key issue is resolved.
