Converting/constructing a steel building into a home

I have had the long desire to construct a steel building and design it as a home. I have always found this type of wide open space intriguing and inviting. Like walking into breweries. High ceilings, rolling doors, ability to alter, etc. Does anyone have experience with steel building/home construction? Benefits and drawbacks? The best process for completing? I have purchased homes but not land or buildings. I know there must be hoops to jump through like zoning. If anyone has any helpful information, thoughts, or suggestions I would appreciate it. Any steel building construction owners on our forum? This would be constructed in South Carolina. Much appreciated.

I don't have any experience, but I have seen plenty of pictures on line of metal buildings that are used as homes.

I have seen a lot of pictures as well. It is not a popular option near me but itís also never talked about. It obviously takes finding land that is zoned for residential without an HOA. Probably some other restrictions as well. I love the simplicity of it. Being able to construct whatever you want to inside, having the high ceilings, and fresh air. Even the realtors here donít know much.
