Lane assistance - Near death experience

I was in a 2019 x5 and I was approaching a stream with a guardrail and slight bend one lane each direction. Small runoff when I saw a person walking oncoming steps in my lane because of the guardrail and I crossed the Center lane to avoid them but the car fought me to hit them. I managed to counter its steering but **** me what a unpleasant feeling in a quick reaction moment.

I think the lane departure works pretty well. For the times when I'm getting close to drifting out of the lane it gets me back in and for those that I need to move over it is very easy to do so. Just holding onto the wheel or counter steering will shut off the steering. I have never had it intervene when it shouldn't have.

I have mine set to early which may help.

It's hard to imagine that it can't sense when you are doing emergency steering and cancel the intervention- that's terrifying.

I turned off lane departure intervention on my 2019 X5 as well early on (just left vibrate notification on). It makes an intervention judgement error in normal situations driving too often, and sounds like this experience adds the final nail in that coffin.

I test drove a 2019 X5 with this feature and I experienced the steering intervention. But to me it felt more like a one time pull and one should be able to easily overpower the motor torque. In any case, this will be the first thing I'll turn off when I get my car.

Only a matter of time before a cyclist is knocked off by lane ‘assistant’ returning the car back after drifting over the center line - somewhat analogous to the MCAS debacle on the 737 MAX

I find the corrective force sudden and quite violent and too have switched to warning mode only - at least the switc is easily accessed in centre dashboard
