San Diego (SD) Caravan to Bimmerfest 2014

I couldn't find a thread for an SD caravan (I'm new to forums, I may have missed it), so I started this one. If there is a thread already, or a link, please let me know and feel free to delete this one... That being said, a few friends and I are going to drive up to Pasadena and wanted to see if we could get a bigger group together.

Me and a few buddies are meeting at the UTC mall
in La Jolla right off the 805 freeway at 5:45am on May 17th.
It's really easy access to the freeway. This is the only
San Diego caravan that has been somewhat set up.
We will meet in the parking lot in front of Sear's and
Corner bakery. We have left to Bimmerfest from here
in the past. Really good spot. Let me know if this works.

We should be on the road by atleast 6:00 or 6:15. It's like a 2 hour ride from San Diego and the gates open at 9am. I would bring a couple fold out chairs. The event is mostly on grass.

That's sounds good. Yeah I've never organized one. It seems like no one has set anything up for southern San Diego. PM your number

Sorry I've been MIA. Seems like the UTC mall in La Jolla @6am is the meeting place as of now. This is my first time, and I'm new to the city, that's the Westfield Mall by Genesse and Noble, right?

My friends and I will probably meet up in Downtown around 5:30am and then go to La Jolla. So anyone else in downtown area is welcome to join us.

If we get contact info, we can let the Carlsbad people know that we're in the area and they can join.

Question: I'll be bringing a bunch of luggage with me as I am going to continue my drive up to Northern California after Bimmerfest (will not join you guys on the way back). Would it be safe to keep my stuff in my car or should I stop by in LA and drop off my luggage at a relative's house?

It will be safe. This isn't a Honda meet lol (just kidding) Just keep your car locked when you walk around the show and you should be fine.

And how many cars are you bringing to UTC?

Thanks. (good one). I'm not bringing anything too expensive, mostly clothing. Plus there is nothing fancy about my interior to show off, so I'm going to keep it locked.

There are at least 3 of us from my school, so not too big of a crew.

In past years, the San Diego Caravan starts at UTC by the sears and start rolling in at 5:45 and departing at 6:15. then the leader of that group will call someone at the Carlsbad caravan that meets at the Carlsbad Outlets about 5 min. Prior and everyone just goes as one big group. This is for the new guys of course

Sup everyone, I live by UTC and this is my second caravan. Make sure everyone brings a walkie talkie so we can all communicate like last year. I'll be uploading the route we took last year with pictures. I think I still have them. Not sure if we are stopping at that ikea again on the way up this year. Email me at [email protected] or on here. I had to make a new account. Also bring sunscreen and some cash because a lot of vendors don't take debit. I want us to caravan back as well. Last year on the way up we almost had a few accidents so we will need 2 lead vehicles this time. One relating directions on the radio and one making sure the group is all caught up and everyone is clear on where to go and when.

it's really easy, just take the I-5 and 110 and get out on orange grove avenue. we should DEFINITELY NOT STOP AT ORANGE COUNTY, like last year. that was a complete waste of time and complicated things further. if they want to join they should join the caravan the same way carlsbad has been merging with the group for years.

we only had a few accidents on the way up last years because the unnecessary stop at orange county caught people at the last second. it's very difficult to safely slow a large group of cars getting off the freeway at freeway speeds to street speed using an off ramp

Me and my buddies will be there at 5:45. Would anyone be down for a pre-meet sometime this week? Maybe on Wednesday?

I honestly do not think I'm going to invest in a walkie-talkie since I'll never need it after this event. I think going straight from UTC up 5, then 110 WITHOUT any stops is the best. I agree, stopping is only going to cause more headache and it's only around 2 and a half our drive anyway.

So looks like we meet at around 5:45 AM at UTC Sears?

If any one is interested in meeting in Downtown SD around 5:30 the latest to head to UTC La Jolla, let me know.

Also, it looks like we can pay admission fee on the spot right? we don't need to pay ahead?
