Purchase Advice

I'm in the market for a used car. What should I pick? 2012 BMW 535i xDrive with 29,800 miles, clean carfax 1 owner or a 2015 535i xDrive with 59,700 miles clean carfax 2 owners? Both cara have the same price $19,500. Thanks

Three years and 30k miles difference, so the next question is overall condition, and how long you intend to keep the car. Also check for any trouble codes. Make sure everything works as it should. Make sure you're not gonna have to buy new tires in 2-3 months and check the date code on them, particularly on the 2012. It's now recommended that tires be replaced every six years, regardless of wear. If the vehicle has been parked outside in the sun, uv rays cause the rubber to deteriorate faster. Lastly, which car has all (or most of) the features you're wanting. The 2015 may have some features that weren't available in 2012. Then take both for a decent ride, and not just on the interstate. Run some back roads to determine how each rides and drives. Then add up all the pluses and minuses to arrive at your final choice. Oh, one more little thing. If you live where there's property tax on vehicles, the '12 will be cheaper on taxes, as will most likely be your insurance premiums.

Once youve made a decision have the car undergo a pre-purchase inspection (PPI) performed by a reputable indie shop that specializes in bimmers. Try www.bimrs.org. Also check the website for the local chapter of the BMWCCA for recommendations. Google BMW CCA ##### where ##### is your zip code. All used cars have issues.
