E82 / E87 / E88 / F20 1 Series (2008 - 2014)
BMWs throw back to the iconic 2002, with a renewed form and function. The smallest car in BMW's line up but still packs a punch. Available in coupe or convertible, powered by a naturaly aspirated inline 6 in the 128 or the turbo twin power inline 6 rocket sled 135. |

My M2 performance exhaust is too loud for me
Hello everyone, my first tech post. I bought a slightly used 2018 M2 and it came optioned with the performance exhaust. This is my 7th bmw. I think the M2 is a fantastic machine, plenty of power, amazing handling and most young folks would love the exhaust note. Unfortunately I'm not young at 69 and to me it is too loud and at 3000 rpms in 6th gear at 80 mph it's a drone - loud drone that even creates a vibrational buzz somewhere in the back seat area that I haven't been able to identify. But bottom line is I want to change it substantially. I don't believe , although I haven't been able to physically compare the stock M2 exhaust to the Performance Exhaust (PE). But from what I've heard on YouTube I don't think the stock exhaust is even going to reduce the note enough. So my question to this group is whether any of you think the stock M240 exhaust would actually harm the engine? I think it would be quiet enough. If it didn't effect the power output much or at all I think it might be the perfect solution for me. I don't want to sell the car because it's too loud. I love the car otherwise. If any of you know an engineer at bmw that could answer my question that I might contact, I would love to contact him or her by writing or whatever.
Thanks everyone - any helpful comments are welcome. Tim |

Shouldn't an M2 have a deep exhaust resonance indicative of serious horsepower?

If you read the fine print in BMW's description of the M Performance exhaust, it never says it increases power. Modern, turbocharged BMW engines are governed to how much torque they produce, and torque x engine rotational speed = power.
