7 Series - G11 / G12 (2016 - current)
The next generation G11/G12 BMW 7 Series flagship forum. Unveiled June 10th, with production starting in August the 6th generation 7 Series comes in a light weight package with extensive use of BMW i carbon fiber technology. The interior quality raises the bar with a touch screen and gesture controlled infotainment system. Exterior styling has been a sticking point with mixed reviews so far.

Lightbulb Side By Side Comparo - LCI

So here we finally have two 7's parked together and the change is quite dramatic IMO!

So much more "presence" now.

Gotta love those Laser Lights and the low-profile futuristic look.

I thought you were kidding, and then I searched a 50 Buick. Turns out you're right.

The headlights are nice, and the width of the grille wouldn't be bad, but folding the fake part up onto the top of the hood (which is now also elevated to somehow justify the fake grille area) is what has become the thing that everyone will continue to make fun of. The bottom corner vents chromed out don't help. It's too bad these things really add a cheap knockoff look to an otherwise amazing car.

Mein Auto: From BMWs to Porsches
Hey Tex. You know I always have had mad respect for your taste and opinions but, in this case, I have to say go dark if you go big or dont go at all. Personally, Im not a fan of the big nostrils. I think this is BMWs shameless appeal to the China market. That said, however, the perfect combination for me would be B7 blue and blacking-out all chrome.

The huge grills haven't grown on me yet...so I'd pick the 7 on the left.

I also need more technical info as to how the laser headlights work in heavy fog (since I guess fog lights are not needed if you have laser headlights). What happens during those times of year when the fog is so heavy and the only thing you can do is look for the white lines within 15 feet of the front end of the car because you can't see anything else...because the headlights are reflecting off the fog and you see in front of you from the hood up is a blanket of whiteness?

first, you need to get the M sports package to black out the chrome. These cars look a lot better in person than they do in pictures. The part that makes them incredible is the 0-60 time of 3.9 SECONDS!

I was at a BMW dealership Friday and saw these in person. I am not a fan of the big grille but like everything else I guess it will grow on me. The market is flooded right now with lease returns and it may be a good time for me to pick up a 2016....

I believe it's faster than all the other flagships. (Except the high performance versions)

THAT is one thing BMW seems to get right across the lineup.

Hey all.

This is my picture. Don't worry, you're free to use it and post it and what-all, doesn't matter to me.

The car on the left is my current car, and the one on the right is new on the dealer lot and I test drove it a few days before I took this. I returned on this day to put down the deposit and finalize my order.

Actually, I think I pulled double duty to help the dealer get it from the delivery facility to the dealership lot, but no matter.

Since they're both Imperial Blue with non-M spec, I thought it would be the best opportunity to do a straight face-to-face comparison. So, I hunted around the lanes of the lot until I found it, got out and snapped this.

In my opinion, the LCI has much more presence on the road (as I indicated originally). I think the grille looks better in real life. Every car in this segment (and higher) has a huge grille, whether it's the S-Class, A8, LS, Flying Spur, or even a Ghost. I'm not sure what people are expecting; it's a big expensive car, this is just how these things look.

Well...it looks like I was thinking "inside the box" instead of "outside the box" in regards to fog and road visibility. It appearas that BMW's use of FIR (far infrared) technology aka night vision thermal camera technology...the heat signature of not only humans and animals are detected...the heat from car differentials, transmission, engines, etc....is also detected. So even in dense fog, the FIR camera can detect vehicles in fog even better than the human eye would be able to detect with the use of "fog lights".

Thought I'd share my "awakening" to the use of this technology in areas I was overlooking...perhaps others were, too.
BMWs Night Vision uses a thermographic camera integrated into the grille of the vehicle to pick up infrared radiation being emitted by living obstacles that shouldnt be left in the dark to motorists, namely people and animals. The camera transmits a black and white image to the vehicles navigation display, showing us what wouldnt normally be visible to the naked human eye. Essentially, these images are the heat signature of the person or animal being detected. Hot items appear on the screen as radiating a white glow, while cold items are displayed in black. The distinction between the two allows drivers to easily assess any obstruction in the road. In the event of an impending collision, a warning is shown on the screen and a blinking red symbol is displayed. An acoustic warning is also heard, and the brakes are primed for optimum responsiveness.

Mein Auto: depends
I prefer my 18 G12 to the LCI. One of the things I have liked about my BMWs (3s, Z, 4 Vert, 5s) is the proportionality and subtlety of the design. This design throws off the proportionality, in my opinion. BMW keeps making the headlights narrower which (with the pre-LCI grill) accentuates the car width. This redesign just throws everything off. Narrow, wide headlights and unnecessarily tall grill. But to each his own.

New grill to me is ugly, looks clunky & cheapens look of the Car. Definitely prefer look of car on the left in original post
