E82 / E87 / E88 / F20 1 Series (2008 - 2014)
BMWs throw back to the iconic 2002, with a renewed form and function. The smallest car in BMW's line up but still packs a punch. Available in coupe or convertible, powered by a naturaly aspirated inline 6 in the 128 or the turbo twin power inline 6 rocket sled 135.

2009 128i Warning Lights

I have a 2009 128i (E88) with 113,000 miles on it. Went out this morning to go to Home Depot and upon starting the car I was faced with the following warning lights: ABS, DSC, Brake, and Check Engine Soon, and TPMS.

The TPMS has been out for a while because the TP sensor batteries are dead on all four wheels. I ensure the tire pressure is in spec every weekend, so I've been ignoring the TPMS warning until I replace the tires, when I'll also replace the TP batteries.

The Owners Manual has a section in the warning indicators that includes this combination of warning lights, and the special actions to be taken are simply to drive carefully and have the problems sorted out as soon as possible. Interestingly, the reference to the "fix" for this goes back to the TPMS portion of the owners manual. So I'm kinda thinking that the old TPMS failure may be at the root of the problem.

Planning to take the car in tomorrow to have my very good dealer do a check on it. Curious if anyone on the forum has had this occur to them?

Not sure, but last time I had something similar to that (on another make of car) it was the alternator not charging and battery being very low... So everything was going nuts coding for because of too low voltage.

Check first if you still have an alternator belt on. (quick one).

Thanks for your reply! I had considered that it may be a low battery and did a battery check. It was a good 13.5-14 Vdc and the alternator was working okay. (I have done most of the routine maintenance on the car since since new.)

Truth is I had experienced something very similar to this a couple of years ago but not so many warning lights. So I took it to the dealer and it turned out to be one of the ABS wheel speed sensors. All four sensors had been replaced less than two years ago and were still under warranty so it was a no-cost fix. Woo hoo!
