SES o2 sensor '07 MC

Yesterday my Service Engine Soon Light came on, so today I dropped it off at the dealer, and they said the oxygen sensor was bad and that they had to order a new one. Car has got about 3,000 miles on it. Do you think I got a bad sensor or did something cause it to go out in the last 5 months?

Dealer was a little shocked to see me in with this car as my issues are usually with the 5. At least this one is under warranty, so I know it will not cost me anything to bring it in.
