G30 (2017 - Current)
The next generation 5 Series, chassis code G30, arrives at dealers in February 2017. Looking like a scaled down 7 Series and riding on the CLAR platform, the new 5 Series will have a focus on lightweight and sporty performance. Engines options will come from BMW's new B family for the 530 and 540 and a turbocharged V8 for the M550i. Read more about the 2017 5 Series

I am amazed that you were able to get 1K above invoice In NJ they do not want to give you more than 1-2K of MSRP and 99.9% buy/lease without even test drive.

Unless the contract specifically says otherwise, the deposit is refundable. The only time I've seen non-refudable was with strange combinations of colors, trim, upholstery and options.

Don't feel bad for the dealer. With the M550, they will find a new buyer for "your" car in a nanosecond, likely with more profit for the dealer.

Finally, you only get a rate lock if you submitted a credit app. It is unclear from the OP's post if he did that.

Like pharding mentioned, once the M550i arrives, drive it back to back with the E43. I've driven the E43 and it's handling is good for a car that size. Either way, one of them in the driveway will make you happy.

I do not need a V8, E43 has more options, why should I go for the M550iX? I am really considering the E43.

Help.
There is a guy on the MBWorld board who got $9500 of an E43 which given the other leasing advantages could make it a compelling deal if you don't need a V8.

My sense is the discounts will get bigger once they announce the E50. However I have no idea when they will announce the E50. Likely between now and August.

The provisional 2018 dealer ordering guide for the E Class does not contain an E43. Only E300 and E63. So this is a sign that E50 will be a 2018 model.

The M550ix I ordered hits the US on the 15th, will be at dealer aprox apr 22 to 25.
I will test drive it, and then decide, but honestly, unless there is something wrong with the car, I will end up keeping it, I have spent too much time already in this car selection process.

You are getting clobbered and raped in a manner that would make Kim Jong-un happy. You could probably get the next M5 for less.

Here is your lease as close as I can get it.
Essentially you are getting raped and clobbered because you are paying MSRP for the car as well as $300+ cash out of pocket and absolutely zero rebates or offers.

It sounds like you are buying one of the first cars to hit a US dealership so they may not want to bargain and I guess that is your choice. Personally I think you should try for at least 5% off...

3300 includes the fees, taxes, and the first month payment, that is normal... so its only around 300 additional cash down you are paying. Most people will pay 2500-3000 due at signing.
The extra $300 is lost money in your case so you should get that eliminated, and then work on the sale price of the car.
Good luck.

I'm also cross-shopping the 5 series against the AMG, and drove the latter this week - just a quick highway and back roads jaunt, nothing too crazy. I also drove the 540 as a benchmark, and hopefully will see a 550 at the dealer sometime before I decide.

To be honest, numbers aside, I didn't find the E43 to be that much quicker than the 540, in particular in the mid-range. I also felt the transmission more noticeably but overall, it felt planted around the curves. The 540 was surprisingly a little quieter in terms of general cabin noise. The E43 in sport mode sounded awfully sweet - almost a v8 kind of growl in sport mode. My biggest complaint was with the racing style seat with the bolsters a little too compressed for me at my current driving weight, and no comfort seat option available.

I'm also considering the E43 vs the M550. Have already driven the 540, was going to try driving the Merc this weekend. Will share my thoughts afterwards.

At its base, I think the exterior of the 5 is nicer but prefer the interior of the Merc from pictures. The 540 drove better than the F10 535, but I need to compare to the Merc.

Re the interior, I was blown away by the videos of the E43 (professional lighting and camerawork I'm sure), but to be honest, in person it wasn't nearly as impressive. I rated it a push vis a vis the BMW. I wasn't crazy about the aluminum inlays.
