2014 M6 Reliabilty Question

New to site, been thinking about picking up a used 2014 M6 convertible or a 2014 or 2015 650i which seem to be around the same price.

My concern is with reliability on these models. I read many issues with earlier 2012-2013 models and entire engine swaps needed which is scary. Do the model years mentioned above in either the M6 or 650i suffer the same fate?

Also, what extended warranty company do you all recommend for these types of cars and one that will stand behind it.

Appreciate the assistance.

No problems with my 2014 M6 at all. One thing I do that is not in the BMW maintenance program..I change my oil every 6 months, even if only 3000 miles has passed. The piece of mind is worth it.
I also have a 2013 650i Gran Coupe. Same maintenance routine and 0 problems with 39,000 on the odometer.

I just picked up a one owner 2014 M6 very with 11K miles. Do your homework and get a PPI done. There are some good cars out there.

Curious to know what such a PPI would cover...

Depends on the shop.
but usually oil leak, any old fault log, brake pad thickness etc.

But none do body paint thickness to see if car has been in an accident.

I'd say lurk around forums on M6/M5 X5M/X6M, they all use the same engine S63, see emerging common issues and bring it up to the tech that'll do PPI to pay closer attention.

I had my inspection done at a BMW dealership, instrucing them to do a full CPO-level inspection as though they were going to cert the car. I guess that would be as thorough as it can possibly get, no?

It's as good as you can make it.
Just drive it and enjoy it.

That's pretty much what I figured.

Hey, small world - where down at the Shore are you? I used to live in Ocean County, and spent a winter in Wildwood before moving to PA.
