G30 (2017 - Current)
The next generation 5 Series, chassis code G30, arrives at dealers in February 2017. Looking like a scaled down 7 Series and riding on the CLAR platform, the new 5 Series will have a focus on lightweight and sporty performance. Engines options will come from BMW's new B family for the 530 and 540 and a turbocharged V8 for the M550i. Read more about the 2017 5 Series

weird occurance

Yesterday I got in my car and started driving and realized that the steering wheel was still in the raised position blocking my view of the HUD. So I tried to use the control switch to move it and it wouldn't move. I even tried shutting off the car and starting it up again and it still didn't move.

I decided I had to call my SA the next day for a fix. But this morning, when I started the car, it worked fine.

Probably just a gremlin at work but wondering if anyone else had a similar issue.

Steve

I've had the experience where the steering wheel stays in the up position, blocking the view of the display. If I press the seat memory button it moves back into desired position. But I haven't had an issue with the steering wheel control switch being unresponsive.

That didn't occur to me. If it ever happens again, I will try that.

Thanks.

My old E39 started doing this about 12 years ago. Took it to the dealer and they said the up/down motor assembly needed to be completely replaced to correct the problem. The cost was breath taking, so I live with it. Pressing the seat memory button or the wheel control lever will return it back to position. But seat memory brings it to my desired position without thinking about it. Still does this once or twice a month for all these years. If you are under warranty, I would demand a fix if it occurs again.

It has happened a couple of times in my 2019 530ex. Stopped happening after two trips. If it happens again, I'll expect the same. NBD.
