G30 (2017 - Current)
The next generation 5 Series, chassis code G30, arrives at dealers in February 2017. Looking like a scaled down 7 Series and riding on the CLAR platform, the new 5 Series will have a focus on lightweight and sporty performance. Engines options will come from BMW's new B family for the 530 and 540 and a turbocharged V8 for the M550i. Read more about the 2017 5 Series

Just Special Ordered My First BMW

Greeting everyone! I joined this forum a couple of months ago, and have been quietly lurking ever since. This will be my first post. To start, I would like to sincerely thank everyone else who posts, as this site has been a great source of information for me (until now) a non-BMW owner. After driving Lexus cars for the past 20 years, I have just special ordered my first BMW a 530e. Wanting to reduce at least somewhat my carbon footprint, but not be tied to a purely electric vehicle, the 530e seems perfect combining both luxury and performance. Here is the make-up of the car with my special order specifications:
- 2020 model 530e (rear wheel drive)
- Luxury line
- Color Imperial Blue Metallic
- Wheels 18 all-season run flats
- Leather Mocha Nappa
- Trim Burl Walnut
- Driving Assistance Plus Package
- Lighting Package
- Parking Assistance Package
- Premium Package
- Dynamic Damper Control
- Ceramic Controls
- Leather Dashboard
- Multi-contour seats
- Harmon Kardon sound system
Now, comes the hard part to impatiently wait for it to be built and to arrive!

Congrats, I think that Blue/Mocha combination will look real nice - be sure to post pictures!

I hear you about the wait, I felt the same thing. There are even theads here full of methods where you can track every step (down to GPS tracking the ship it is on!).

congratulations. I have the mocha nappa and leather dash and they really finish out the cabin. I love the Nappa upholstery. I also love the way the multi-contour seats gently enclose me when I attach the seat belt.

I bought a 530e for the same reason you did...to reduce my carbon footprint. But, on the other hand, it is a BMW. So what I do is drive locally on pure electric, recharge during the day (i am semi-retired, work mostly from home and have a garage with a charger unit) but let the car sing on the open road. That is my compromise. Doing this I tend to get between 700 and 1,000 miles on a 12.1 gallon tank.

I predict you will love the car. While I always want more power (duh), I have never lacked the power I needed including passing cars pulling trailers on a steep hill with a 65 mph speed limit.

Congrats the build looks great!

You're reminding me I'm VERY long overdue posting pictures and hopefully I can get around to that this weekend!

You'll love the color combination as that's what I went with as well and it is PERFECT. Imperial Blue is awesome and Mocha just pops with it IMHO. It is honestly a fantastic car and I went with it for the same reasons. Really wanting to be a bit more green, but not lose all performance and power like a Prius Prime and get my feet wet on an EV (without turning my road trips into hunts for charging!).

Congratulations and welcome! I feel I can offer my opinion here as I have bought many Lexus models for my wife over the past 20 years. After her most recent '18 fully loaded RX450H she is throwing in the towel, desperate for a better UI and tech.
I on the other hand have been in many cars over the last 20 years and can honestly say my '18 M550 (4th Beemer) is the best yet in terms of luxury, tech and performance. Give yourself some time to really explore all the tech and features of your 530E and there will be no going back.

Nice config ... noticing that LED Fog Lights are NOT included in the Lighting Pkg and are ONLY avail in the MSport package.
Disappointing - I find the LED Fogs are very helpful illuminating the roadside esp on dark rural roads.

Very nice build with classy colors. You will be glad you popped for the ceramic controls and the nappa leather on the dash. I wish the leather extended to the bottom portion of the dash like it did on my E70 X5, but other than that it's quite nice.

How long until you get it?

Congrats! 7 BMWs and 5 Lexus's here. My last Lexus was fun but they have fallen way behind on tech and features. Our reasons for going with the 530e are similar to yours. We have been extremely happy with it. I did order a level 2 charging cable and installed an outlet in our garage. We drive the car less than 20 miles a day so we're mostly on electric. Our gas mileage is about 88 mpg. Have put fuel in it once since we bought it 5 Oct 2019.
I settled on the color of our 530e since I was very specific about options and couldn't wait for a special order car (my Lexus was special order and there were too many delays). Your color combo would have been my preferred. I am happy with the color but my wife misses having a more fun color.

Congratulations on your excellent build list!! I enjoyed the ordering process almost as much as accepting delivery of the car. The waiting didn't bother me quite so much - or maybe I just blocked out the weeks of unbridled anticipation.

Finally!!

So, as my original post in this thread indicated, I special ordered by new 530e in early February. I tracked it through the completion of its production at the factory in Germany on February 28, and its later embarkation on a car carrier vessel bound for the U.S. West Coast (having luckily made it both through production and out to sea before the Coronavirus shut down Europe). I then tracked it across the Atlantic Ocean, through the Panama Canal, and up the West Coast to Oxnard, California (just 375 miles away from me) where it arrived on April 6 and went to the BMW Vehicle Distribution Center. It then sat at the distribution center for the next 7 weeks, as the Sales Office of the local dealership I had special ordered the car through was shut down due to the pandemic. The dealership finally reopened earlier this week, and the car at long last was transported to the dealership. Yesterday, I completed all of the final sales paperwork remotely, and I will finally pick up the car on Monday. Needless to say, I'm very excited! In the interim, the dealership provided the following pictures of my car.

Beautiful car. You should ask for a credit for the delay.

The 530e is a bit of a unicorn. In the 29 months I have had mine, I have seen two others. One i have seen three times in the parking lot at golf courses but I have not seen the owner (we apparently play at the same courses) and the other I saw once at a golf course. I en;joy having a car that very few others have.

I assume you will get the 2 month payment waiver on the lease, or the 3 free payments if you financed. I think that should be plenty. No need to be greedy.
