G30 (2017 - Current)
The next generation 5 Series, chassis code G30, arrives at dealers in February 2017. Looking like a scaled down 7 Series and riding on the CLAR platform, the new 5 Series will have a focus on lightweight and sporty performance. Engines options will come from BMW's new B family for the 530 and 540 and a turbocharged V8 for the M550i. Read more about the 2017 5 Series

Rear camera update

Has anyone had this recall fixed yet? Iím curious how long it takes. As I understand, it is a software update.

I had mine done last week but I am not sure exactly how long it too. I am recently off hip replacement surgery so I had the dealer do a pick up and drop off. They picked it up late one morning and returned it about mid day the following day. Two annoyances: First, their reprogramming wiped out my Bimmercode improvements so I had to redo them. Second, even though I wasn't due for an oil change for several months or another few thousand miles, they said BMW approved it because it would have been due in a couple of months anyway. If they do all the oil changes early, then when it comes time for me to pay for them I will need one earlier than normal. But just minor pet peeves. Also after I got it back I got the old "Low coolant" warning. Planned to take it back in but the light went out on its own. If it lights up again I will take it in. Don't think their service had anything to do with that. --Bob

I was a couple of months out from my scheduled maintenance when I called about the notice. My SA had me bring the car in and they not only did the software update but they also accelerated my oil change. Same as you. This seems to be the BMW system. Doesn't bother me though because I would rather change the oil sooner rather than later. If that means I pay for one extra oil change, so be it. A cheap way to ensure that the engine is being protected.

I had the rear camera recall taken care of a few weeks ago. My car was ready the same day so it appears it was a fairly quick update. Several settings had to be reset including favorite buttons, equalizer, etc.

When I had the camera recall done about 3 weeks ago they did an oil change too. It was 5+ months early based on our low mileage but I didn't mind and figured it couldn't hurt. The whole process took 2 1/2 hours.

Software update - yes - by mine was done before I picked mine up when I first got the car.

Note: If you backup your driver profile(s) via iDrive to USB, you can restore everything. Also, if you have your BMW Connected account(s) associated with your key(s), your settings should be saved there, too.

Had mine done a few weeks because they called me in at only about 2000 km so they did not do anything else...other than mess up my navigation which would not work by voice command and took forward to find an address if it typed it in.

First camera service was about half a day, going back from Navigation hiccup was less than an hour

PRO TIP--check your navigation before you leave

Correct. Car gets Programmed, so it is wiped out. Need to eenable it afterwards.

Good dealers will back up and then restore your profile (mine did). All coding is gone though

Also, updated camera has far less contrast than before (which was the point of the update). Works fine outdoors, but not nearly as good in a dark parking garage
