The BMW dealer wanted $500 for the battery change and computer update. I did it about 4 months ago and 5000 mi, drove from Boston to Clearwater last winter. No problems

There is an adapter you can plug into cigarette lighter plug with 9 volt battery that will keep memory powered while changing battery.
Never used one on a BMW but can’t see why it wouldn’t work.

Hello Roy,
Dealer, here in TX, quoted me $338 + $15 core + $160 for registration for my 07' 750i E65. Needless to say, I replaced mine with AdvanceAutoParts' Autocraft AGM Battery and registered myself with INPA for about $185 total.

Thanks,
Sircas,
I got the INPA cable off ebay few weeks ago and it came with the software dvd. I also got a cheap pc with windows 10 off craigslist for $110. PM me if you need help with your car, although, I'm not very mechanically inclined.

Carly for BMW doesn't have option to clear the Battery Registration code. I emailed the developers and was advised that the feature will be coming soon.

Beyond registration of the new battery, deletion of the old battery's charging adaptations is required. Otherwise the charging system/IBS will charge the new high capacity battery like it did the old wore out battery, and kill the new one even faster.

Batteries can be purchased at AutoZone or Pep Boys for about $190.00. You can find an independent shop to register the battery for about 35 to 50 bucks. It takes all of about 15 minutes to put the battery in the car. 30 if you don't know what you're doing. I'll let you do the math, and tell us, if you think your being ripped off.

The math is simple, $240 compared to $420!! DON'T need a calculator to figure that out!!

So the engine was completely removed from my car a couple of weeks back for almost 8 days as valve seals replacement and few other critical fixes were needed. In this case engine along alternator and harness was disconnected from the battery.

Now do i have register the battery again? In my case, battery wasnt removed from the car nor the terminals were removed from the battery. However, warning 'recharge your battery' comes up very soon if the ignition is left in ON position. (in a matter of 5 mins max) i would say.

The battery i have has worked perfectly since last year it was replaced. Its not original BMW battery. But has 110ah

I wondering if i register it now, would the power module take it as a new battery? Hows INPA gonna know if its a non BMW battery with different power figures?

I do not know for sure but I do not think the computers in 1998 were as sophisticated as 2011. I do not know when they went over to the programming for the battery. I used a Carly with a blue tooth hook up to do my 2011 328i battery switch.

Iv;e made some progress but am looking for some advise. I managed to reset my computer and get my care out of tranny fail safe using diagnostic tools i aquired. i monitored the valve body solenoids while driving and observed 1,2 and 3 actuating while the care shifted. 4 never turned black or on. so shifting to fourth never actuates and car goes back into tranny fail safe. i then used the activate feature F6 i believe to manually activate the solenoids, 1 through 3 work shile 4 just says shift lock. Do you think i am looking at a bad solenoid? And is there a way to reset shift lock on solenoid 4 or program to shift from 3 to 5 skippin 4rth like an older tranny would do automatically? Thank you very much for any advise anyone can give as i have NO ONE within 70 miles who can look at this car. being stuck in 3rd gear i dont think i can drive it there.

Using the diagnostic tools i also found two codes related to the tranny. 004F89 EGS ration monitoring 3-4/0051AD no message, receiver EGS, transmitter DSC.

still have ABS cannot find it listed to reset manually. and have dynamic control issue with a code that calls out wrong type speed control modual on left rear tire, these do not seem related.

any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Ken
