E30 (1982 - 1993)
God's Chariot. The E30 was produced primarily from 1982 through 1991. The cabriolet was the one exception which was produced through 1993.

Mystery Cable/Boot Lid

Hi all, my latch system on the boot lid on my '88 has been acting up a bit. I suspect the latch handle needs to be replaced. I've found a few threads, but if anyone knows a real good one I'd love to know about it.
Now that mystery cable. There is a cable next to the support shock on the trunk wall of top storage compartment. Runs vertically. There is only one and its only on the right hand side. I cannot figure out what it is for. Does anyone know it's function?
Thank you!!

Welcome to Bimmerfest!

I don't have a cabrio to check, but isn't that the radio antenna lead?

Hi, Thank you. I often look and research, but have only asked a couple of questions overt the years. We joined about a year apart and you have only 26,312 more posts than me.....ha.
No I don't think so, it's connected to the boot lid and the wire is similar to the wire in the boot lid latching mechanism. Disappears into the floor of the compartment. I did find one thing on one of the e30 sites saying that it prevents you from opening the trunk when the boot lid is open. I haven't tried to see if it works. I'll get a picture over the weekend.
