Any hope for X5 diesel?

I know there was a post back in September of last year that BMW had not yet made a firm decision as to whether they would offer diesels in the US. I wondered if anybody had seen any updates on this from BMW and whether there is still any hope when I'm ready to replace my 2017 X35d with another diesel?

Mercedes-Benz, and VW Group (VW, Audi, Porsche) are also done with diesels in the U.S. BMW's departure was abrupt, coming without much warning. I suspect somebody high up at BMW NA or BMW AG finally had enough with the cost of emission warranty claims, looked at the low U.S. sales volume and profit margins, and said the Hell with it.

GM will stop selling Chevy Equinox and GMC Terrain diesel models after the 2019 model year. Mazda has a small diesel SUV coming soon. Volvo and Jaguar/Land Rover still offer diesel SUV's.

If you want the diesel for the low-end torque and decent mpg, consider waiting for the hybrid version of the x5 coming to the US sometime next year. The electric motor gives you the low-end torque and adds to the overall power so that it's near the V8 range with an I4 fuel usage. On the EU websites, they're claiming 2.1l/100km, but once the charge is gone, I'm sure that would go up (sort of inverted from mpg, up means more fuel / distance they way they rate things). The first X with a factory towing option (at least in the US). Max towing in the 7-8K range

Actually, the G01 X3 offers a towing package (4400 pounds), and has since it was introduced. We got it on our 2018 X3 30i.

That's what I get for believing a review...maybe it was the first X5, and obviously, not all X's.

Anyway, I think the X5 hybrid with the larger battery will make a good tow vehicle and have enough juice for most around-town driving without using any fossil fuel (at least in the vehicle!). Plus, with the resistance heating, you'll get a warm vehicle in the winter quicker along with cooler in the summer.

We will see whether 45e would be a good towing option. First, due to heavy battery the payload may be fairly low. Second, the tank will be smaller = lower mileage when towing. I am waiting myself to check 45e out for towing.

Mein Auto:
The fuel tank on the 45e is 69 liters [18.2 gallons] compared to 83 liters [21.9 gallons] on the 40i and M50i (17 % less). Similarly, the towing capability is 2700 kg [5952 lbs ] instead of 3500 kg [7716 lbs] on 40i/M50i (23 % less).

Those figures are for max 8 % slopes. For max 12 % slopes the 45e number is still 2700 kg but for the M50i it drops down to 2700 kg and for the 40i it drops to 2500 kg. All numbers come from the German technical data sheet.

Towing info is on 3rd final page with title "Technische Daten"
The first paragraph contains weight and towing info.

Good data. All X5s have good payload capacity. 45e with the lowest payload has 1580 lbs, which is plenty. US versions are rated to 7,200 lbs = 3,265 kg.

Anyway, 45e does not appear to be a good option for my 7,200 lbs trailer.
