Thanks Panachronic !

So, I didn't wanna tag this on the RTR thread, so for those that remember, I dropped my older pansonic camcorder. Bought a new one.

woo hoo all my old accessories will work ........

Hmm so I have 2 working "old batteries" we'll call the 180's and 1 new that came with the camcorder (we'll call the 190)

now the battery charger will accept and charge the 180's and the 190. therefore it is backward compatible.. and also the 190 will fit into the older camcorder

Now do you think the older 180 will fit into the new camcorder------->

NOPE, why, because the NEWER battery has 5 locking tabs and the older one... yup you got it, has 6.

But no... wait... (I googled) and found that cutting the extra tab will allow the battery to fit. a bit worried, but the YT article showed that the pinouts where the same, SO i cut the tab out and VOILA !

it fit... it powered up, the screen came up all fine, showed 20minutes recording time

and then and then and then

screen blacked out and said "This battery cannot be used"
no way to cancel or remove,

The battery is the same , same pin outs. so had to spend $100 inc tax on a spare battery

the battery in the below video kinda illustrates my conundrum

Do the words "Planned Obsolescence" mean anything to you now?

Kind'a like recycled HP ink-jet cartridges.

OE is Original Equipment aka 'BMW Original Parts' aka 'What you buy at the BMW dealer with a BMW label'

OEM is Original Equipment Manufacturer... EITHER the company that made the OE part or.... A part this is identical to the OE part, but is sold by the OEM under their own label

OEM is not what BMW sells
