playing MP3 files from USB stick

Gang
hope all is well. I am the proud owner of a 2019 330i. Love this car, no buyer's remorse here.

Since I've had the car, I've been unable to figure out how to get it to read any USB stick with mp3 files.
BMW USA has told me to keep the MP3 files in the root directory, no sub directories, FAT32 format, etc. None of that has helped. I have tried small and large USB sticks. I've formatted the sticks NTFS, FAT, FAT32, ExFAT, and MacOS Extended. Nothing works.
I have also tested with the USB port in up front and the USB-C port in the center armrest/console with known good adapters, and yes, I did flip the cable over even though USB-C doesn't necessarily need to be (I've seen this with certain adapters).
SO - has anyone been able to load their MP3 files onto the "hard disk" in their 330i? If so, how did you do it?

Not sure this is helpful or if you have one, but on my 2014 and 2017, I only could load music to the hard drive by using the port in the glove compartment. The console ports, for some weird design would not allow uploading.

Glove compartment USB was for the CIC Nav... there was no OEM USB in the glove compartment after the MY2014 NBT. Perhaps you retrofitted the USB port in there, but factory it was not. You may mean the center console USB port, which still is the HDD and software update port.

There is no HDD in the iDrive 6 standard system. HDD is only in the optional iDrive 7. Which one is in your 330i?

The USB stick music should play at least, regardless.

all of my options:

I have iDRIVE 7.x
Here's a list of all of the relevant technical features, which I grabbed from my Vehicle Profile on BMWUSA.com:

Active Blind Spot Detection
Active Driving Assistant
Active Guard
Active Protection
Alarm System
Apple CarPlay Compatibility with 1 Year Trial
CD Player Prep
Connected Package Pro
ConnectedDrive Services
Sport Automatic Transmission
Storage package
SiriusXM Satellite Radio with 1year All Access Subscription
Active Park Distance Control
Parking Assistant Plus
Surround View w/ 3D View
Sport leather steering wheel
Live Cockpit Pro (incl. Navi)
Remote Engine Start
I will ask my salesperson if I have a hard disk (Flash?) or not. I believe I do because I can roll back Sirius XM.
BMW's documentation is somewhat sketchy. For example, I was sent to this website to see which (if any) of my phones might be compatible:
https://connecteddrive.bmwusa.com/ap....com/bluetooth

The response I got:
{"status":404,"message":"Not Found","reason":"Resource not found in 20.730769ms."}
I'm so glad their webserver can tell me they can't find a resource in 20.73ms!

As I continue to explore their connected technologies I'll be posting some more!
