Help locate Crankshaft position sensor

Hi All
I drive a 525i 2001 and it has 152000 miles. 3 days ago I had to replace the alternator. Which I did with a friend, by the way my friend and I don't have any experience or whatsoever working on cars. Learned how to replace alternator through the internet. It was HELL, and a triumph at the end. The car started and drove good first half hour then the Service Engine Soon and EML light came on. I got that scanned at Autozone. The scanner indicated Crankshaft Position Sensor Malfunction and Multiple Cylinder Misfire.

My question is will the faulty sensor cause cylinders to misfire and where on the vehicle is the sensor located, how do i get to it, where do I buy the replacement, and what precautions do I take? Any additional input is most welcome.
