Oh wait I think I know why it works in my Sport mode. I think that is because I turned off engine option in Sport mode using iDrive.

ASS does not work if I engage Sport mode by flipping the shifter to the left, which engages both engine and chassis options.

There is no concrete answer about ASS working in Sport Mode. It works for some people and not others. It's hard to find the commonality, but it seems like everyone who has a 2014 and functional ASS in Sport Mode has an AT no-line 328i or 328xi, however.

If ASS worked in Sport Mode, you could just press the ASS button once and you would have what you want (since it remembers last ASS setting now). To get what I want (firm steering all the time, ASS on all the time), I have to manually toggle to Comfort Mode at every stop light.
I don't think this is correct. I don't think any 2014 F30's have ASS that works in sport mode.

Wasn't willing to relinquish that badge of honor. The others that are my age and still don't mind are just insane. But hey, your car, do whatever you want. If you want to get a car where the bottom is cut out so your feet touch the ground and you can run to make it move forward like in the Flintstones, than be my guest.

All the merits of this automatic aside, if we ever get out of this pit of hell melting pot that we call home and move somewhere rural, I'll get that third pedal back in a heartbeat.
Lots of rationalization there, but hey it's your car. I'm probably older than you and live in LA and it doesn't bother me. And calling us MT urban drivers "insane" and Flintstone-mobilers is not very neighborly.

Oh and I've been driving in LA since 1971, myriad of cars, motorcycles and one truck--all MTs.

Do you have have DHP, or is this a feature specific to the Sport/MSport lines of the 328/335, or just 328/335 in general? I can't configure any modes except Eco-Pro in iDrive. Maybe it's because I have a 320i.

This appears to solve this mystery. 2014 f30 models can only have ASS in Sport Mode if they select "Chassis Only" under Sport config. I just wish I had that option

No glutton for punishment, however I'd be lying if I said driving an auto in extreme bumper to bumper isn't easier on the left leg. I get that. But it is so second nature I don't really think about it 99% of the time.

I reconnected at the recent Bimmerfest with a guy I met back on the E39 forums when we both had brand new 5MT 530i's. He had just searched (and found one) everywhere in the country for a CPO 2013, 6MT F10 535i. 6MT was the main priority for him and he's even older than I.

Actually I think just living in LA qualifies you as insane.

Just kidding, I pop over to LA just for good food and good coffee every once in a while. Although the traffic really is nuts.

I remember I drove down from SF to LA once and my buddy who lived there said it would take about 6 hours. I made it to LA in about 5 hours and was patting myself on the back. But then it took an hour to go the last 10 miles to his house so he turned out to be exactly right all along.

Man, you miss the better part of the day of this thread and you miss a great deal!

Michael, the big issue I have against what I believe Sam is saying is that I think you need to go through a few generations to perfect a new technology. Sure, in some ways i'm right there with him; I'd love to skip a few generations and just arrive at a place where the new technology in question is more efficient and as good or better than the technology it replaces, but I think you generally have to go through a few or several iterations. Like SMG.

Great thread! I love manual transmissions, but as some have said, I live in a traffic-congested city and the auto is a no brainer when it comes to that. The AT seems perfectly suited to 328 M sport IMO because the car always feels in the proper torque curve; also, it is a great box with the paddle shifters, which work great, when you want to have fun.
