Unhappy NOOB NEEDS HELP: No start + P1057 & P1060 error codes

So I'm having complications with this headache of a 7er not starting. I caught it for a decent amount, so the issues weren't a problem, it was however, in Reduced Power mode at time of purchase, showing error P1057 & P1060. I bought it in April and as far as I know it's been sitting for the majority of this year. I'm well-rounded when it comes to domestic cars, but I'm apprehensive about adding to the problem rather than fixing it. I have a kid coming soon, so the car is on the cusp of getting sold, but it won't sell like I need it to if it has issues.

1. Go to your local PepBoys, Autozone, et.al. to have the codes cleared to see if they come back.
2. At the same time have the battery tested. A worn out battery will cause all sorts of electrical faults including the one you listed. If the battery is bad replace it and be certain to register it with the car. If you don't register the battery it will fail within the year. Do a search in these forums for more info.
3. If the battery is good it is possible it is the Integrated Supply Module (ISM). Again, do a search in the forums. This is a very inexpensive part and a 10 minute level 1 fix.

Then again it could be any number of other things. You might want to supply more info on the car, its history, and any other issues it has or does have.

I've cleared the codes repeatedly, but they come back (OBDII reader). Brand new battery: 12.90V @ 936 CCA. Thanks tho.
As far as info it's a 2003, 106K miles with a troubled past. I just had Icom used on it a few days ago and it said the EWS isn't communicating with the DME.

I'd go with the ISM. Start here for an explanation:

Intermittent No Start, Transmission Failsafe Mode, Engine Shut-off

This is a very easy fix.

I'm a certified bmw tech ofore then 20 years the car you have im going to go out on a limb and say that it's been in a heavy accident before! Would that be correct? If so I know what is going on with your car! Does it have a branded title?

Go to a service that provides information on the history of the car (assuming you don't already have the history). Carfax provides such a service and there are probably others. Once you get that post it here so we can help you narrow it down some. An "accident" can be any thing from a head on, to a fender bender, to flooding....

I think the problem is that you bought the car at an insurance auction without being able to inspect the car and without any prior knowledge of the car.

So....

Assuming you have all the codes:

If you are getting multiple faults - check your battery. If it's not putting out the required voltage, get a new battery and make certain that you register it.

If the battery is good - buy a new ISM (cheap) and install it yourself (very easy DIY). The ISM is somewhat of a central point for electronics in your car. If it goes bad lots of crazy things start happening.

This is all a shot in the dark as you do not have much info to share but it is a good place to begin.

BMW 745LI starting problem

my 2003 745li will only click when I push start button but it will start if I connect jump box to the post under the hood but if I connect the jump box to the battery in the trunk it just click like I don't have a jump box on it same as it does without jump box. I had the battery tested and its good putting out close to 1000 cranking amps. anyone have idea what i may want to check whether a relay or fuse or anything? thanks

I suggest you either take it to a reputable indie or a BMW dealer and get an assessment from them.

I'd try a new ISM first but that's just me.

Hi I've got same problem with 318i I writ it off rebuilt it I have just rebuilt the engine and am now getting this error code p1057 but the engine had started a couple of times as I kept adjusting the vvt last time I'm pretty shore it was right but idle a bit rough and cut out when letting off throttle fast ( put down to hydraulic tappets loosing oil) it then cut out whilst ticking over and has not started since what could it be and what is an ISM ?

Hey I recently bought a wrecked 2007 BMW 750i from an online auction. When the car arrived the battery was dead. Boosted the car from the battery in the trunk it crunk right up radio & navigation working fine. But when I took the cables off the car died, tried a couple more times the radio & navigation stopped working. Bought a brand new battery, but I didn't register it. All lights are bright but the car still won't crank on it's on and radio & navigation still not working. The car just clicks when you try to crank it but when you give it a boost it will crank and stay running long as you let it with the new battery but still won't crank without a boost. Giving off the codes p1057 & p1060
