how to turn off Parked-car ventilation

My 2002 525 suddenly developed an issue where the parked-car ventilation fan is running and the entire ac system is unable to be engaged, no lights on the ac. I tried disconnecting and reconnecting the battery,no luck.
I am unable to reset or turn off the parked-car ventilation because the many of the radio display and dashboard display lights are burned out.
Two questions ;
1. How can I shut off the parked-car ventilation?
2. How can I replace the radio and dash lights?

Sounds like the IHKA panel is busted. This is the control panel for HVAC.

The MID is just a display device for the radio, et al.

The only thing at this point is to disconnect the battery until the IHKA is fixed/replaced.

When you say "dashboard display," do you mean the main instrument cluster, where the speedo resides?

If the HVAC is running with key out of the ignition, could be the FSU/FSR (final stage resistor/unit) has failed. Search here "FSU" for more info.

Good point, but he specifically referenced the Parked Car Ventilation, unless he was confused.

Hmm, does that not normally only work when "rest" is pushed? Is anything programmed on the MID?

I've never used it, but, yes this function is accessed via the MID. REST is an IHKA function.

Ditto edjack...but if you have the LOW MID...this feature may be foreign to you since it requires the HIGH MID. The immediate venting & timed event venting is a function of the HIGH OBC which is set-up and turned off/on using the TIME button on the MID (or Nav). Plus, the REST (residual heat) feature only works in cooler weather...the ambient temp must be below 59 F and it uses the residual heat from the engine to blow warm air into the cabin. In warm weather...the MID's/NAV's parked ventilation feature blows ambient temp air into the cabin to keep it from becoming an oven. See the info below about PARKED CAR VENTILATION.

The thing is though...the ignition has to be in KL R (the 1st ignition position) to initiate the immediate venting session...but I'm can't remember off hand if you can set a timed event in any ignition position. But if it is set...the red LED on the MID illuminates to let you know that there's a timed event set-up (or is running).

If none of that has occured...and the IHKA blower is running...I'm more inclined to think the FSR/FSU is on the fritz...especially since its' running with the car off and the OP says they can't control the fan.

Thanks. My owner's manual only offers a scant description; "the exercise is left to the owner."

IIRC, Valeo or Hella are the ones to get. Ebay offbrand units are poorly made. That's one reason that they are so cheap.

If you DO buy one for less than $100, get two, as you'll be replacing them frequently.

BTW, these devices are not resistors, but have a power transistor that controls the blower, based on a control signal from the IHKA panel.

You can get them for less than $50, and it will be the latest factory BMW part, most reliable (most recent update), and with a lifetime warranty:

Correct one is the Sitronic/Valeo which is the OEM BMW one sold at the dealer.
It is sold under private label by REIN, for less than $50 at FCP Euro. FCP Euro also offers a lifetime warranty on everything they sell.

Lifetime warranties are good, but one still must do the replacement (or have it done).

Agreed, but the combination of the most reliable part being the factory oem BMW one, back with a lifetime warranty is as good as it gets with the FSR/FSU. The latest version seems to be solid.

I'm flummoxed.

There may be a BMW-specific scan tool that can shut it off. Otherwise, you'll need to get the display pixels fixed.
