Car stopping during Active Cruise Control

Hello all. New X5 owner (Forgive any wrong terms) and am having issues with the car stopping on its own with no hazards around.

I am at highway speed using active cruise control and the car suddenly starts stopping for no apparent reason. A few times I have spotted 'ghost' cars cutting in front of me on the Driver Assist screen. I have also seen the car I'm pacing suddenly move very close to my car on the screen causing sudden braking as well.

Anyone ever heard of this? I plan on taking car to dealer and see about maybe a software re flash.

Thanks

When this happens, what is the weather like? Is there snow on the windshield or front of the vehicle? Raining? Condensation?

I have not heard of that happening with anyone before. You probably should take it into your dealer and have them check it out. If possible, try to get a video of it happening. Good luck.

After getting car back from dealer it still had the problem. Returned and test drove it with a service tech. Fortunately the problem occurred without a doubt and he was in agreement that there is a problem.

Ran it up the chain of command at the service department and they were able to have it act up when they drove it as well. They have downloaded data from the car and have BMW looking at it. Should hear within a few days what they find.

Good, hopefully they are able to fix it. I will go with a bad KAFAS camera as the reason but that of course is just a wild guess. Let us know how it turns out.

It ended up being a radar sensor that was off its bracket. They also replaced ultrasonic sensors on the front bumper.

All seems to be well now.
