G30 (2017 - Current)
The next generation 5 Series, chassis code G30, arrives at dealers in February 2017. Looking like a scaled down 7 Series and riding on the CLAR platform, the new 5 Series will have a focus on lightweight and sporty performance. Engines options will come from BMW's new B family for the 530 and 540 and a turbocharged V8 for the M550i. Read more about the 2017 5 Series

M550ix interior lighting won't turn off

2020 M550. When I exit the car and leave it unlocked, or just open and close a door from the outside without getting in, the interior lights all go on, as expected. The dome lights turn off after a few seconds, per my setting on the "interior lighting" on the info screen. However, the door lights, ie those colored fiberoptic bars that have changeable colors, stay on for 35 minutes (I actually timed it) before they shut off ! Same goes for the central gauge cluster. I'm worried about the battery draining. The info screen lets you change the color and turn them on or off, but does not seem to allow adjustment to the length of time they stay on. Anyone know how to set this? (If i hit the lock button on the fob, yes they shut off, but I usually do not leave my car locked at home when I park it in the garage).
Thanks

There was a lengthy thread on this topic about 3 months ago.
Search and read it but I can save you some time and give you a summary: just lock the car.

Other than locking the car, simply press and hold the radio volume knob for about 2 seconds to shut down the electronics before you close the door. Also, if you check the related box via iDrive, and you wait just 1-2 seconds before opening your door to exit the vehicle, electronics will shut down. If you have a passenger and you open your door first, it occurs when the "last" door is opened.

Thank you. Sometimes it's hit and miss which is strange. What bugs me is when i just open and close the door to retrieve something from the car while its sitting in the garage. The lights and central gauge cluster then turn on and stay on for 35 minutes. I have to retrieve the fob and lock it to turn things off sooner. What's even worse is when I pull into the garage and have the auto start stop on ( I usually turn it off). After I brake and I put the car in park, the engine shuts off. If I just get out of the car and leave, everything (lights, headlights, radio) stays on indefinitely. I actually don't know how to shut off the car without starting it back up again and turning it off. Too much tech!

Read the other thread, but, when pulling into the garage:

1 - Put car in park
2 - Cut car off (press start stop)
3 - Wait (say "one onethousand")
4 - Open the car door

If this does not work, then you may have a problem with the passenger seat detection.

If you still have ASS initiated and you're pulling into your garage...if you just simply pop th gearshift lever over into the M/S gate...that will cancel the ASS so that when you pull in far enough and stop, the car won't shut off automatically. When you press the P button to put the car into park...the gear shift lever will pop back over to D on its on...and you can press the START button to turn the car off.

This is what I used to do before I got Bimmercode and coded ASS off.

Just wait until the animation on the instrument cluster has completely stopped before pulling your door handle.

Or lock your door...

Opening one of the front doors turns on the dashboard displays. Just depress the volume button for a few seconds and it turns off.

For this to work, you MUST set the exit/shutoff option via iDrive.

That was the default setting in my 2018 and my 2020 G30's (US models).
