Steering assist any good?

Hi group,

Is the steering assist which is part of Active Driving Assistant Pro, any good?

I recently drove a Ford Explorer (yes...) and tried it's ACC and lane centering feature, and was actually pleasantly surprised over how well it performed on the highway. Even going 70mph though a highway bend it kept the car in the center of the lane without any side-to-side bouncing.

Anyone using the driving assistant on new bimmers on a regular basis have some input?

Cheers all - stay healthy!

It is outstanding. It does a great job of keeping the vehicle centered in the lane without weaving or bouncing. I use the cruise with steering/lane control as close to 100% of the time I'm driving as I can. I use it on all types of roads: rural, urban, highway etc. and it always performs well.

A feature of it that I initially thought was a gimmick but now use all of the time is the automatic lane change. It changes lanes very smoothly and adds an extra level of safety since it won't make the change if there is a vehicle nearby that could result in a collision.

Where I live, on some roads, by the middle of winter, not counting when there's still some snow on the roads, if they've used a lot of sand up to that point, the lane markings can almost be worn off in areas. I've driven places around LA where with construction, they've nearly obliterated the markings on long sections of roadway. So, your results will vary.

Lane changing can be problematic if you turn without signalling first.
