Question ventilated seats, multi-adjustable seats on new order

Hi all,
We're starting to put together a build sheet for an X5 and I was wondering what experiences you've had if you got the "multi-contour, ventilated seats." They're in the "luxury seating package. Thanks in advance for your replies.

I always get the optional seats. The multi-contour seats have a hinge about 5/8's up the seat back. Between that and the adjustable lumbar (up-down, in-out) you can adjust the seat back to match your back. Those seats might make me get another 5 Series next time, instead of a 3 Series.

You can order the multi-contour seats as a stand-alone option (code 456). The luxury seating package (code ZLS) also adds ventilation and a massage function that's just plain creepy. It randomly pokes you in your butt cheeks and back of your upper leg. The ventilation on newer BMW's works a lot better than on older ones.

Unless you're getting a hybrid or a third-row seat, don't forget that spare tire (code 300). It's the biggest bargain on the options list.

One of our cars had the regular seats. They were inferior to the multi-contour seats.

Never owned a car with ventilated seats but had several rentals with that option. Worked great down in FL!

Had the multicontour seats on my previous (2013) X5 so I ordered them on the 2020 X5 which I got in March. Now the only vehicle I can comfortably sit in - driver or passenger side - is the X5. Didn't bother with the ventilated seats, though. Cannot get comfortable in the "regular seats" in my wife's 5-series or daughter's 3 series. Our old Yukon Denali had supposedly upgraded seats but still not as comfortable as the multi-contour. And as AutoP says, order the spare - cheap backup "insurance" (but not much room for stuff below the cargo cover).

Just to update & clarify...BMW active "massaging" seats have changed since the 1st iteration's design with only the two inflatable bladders in the lower seat cushion that will inflate/deflate...taking turns...which create a rocking motion. This side to side rocking movement of raising each butt cheek helps prevent lower back and pelvic fatigue especially on long journeys. It works, but as mentioned, some may have found it creepy...because it felt like a booty massage with someone lifting each butt cheek.

The new 2nd iteration active "massaging" seats now also have "massage cushions" & "bubbles" in the upper back as well as the air bladders in the bottom seat cushion:

And in regards to the "ventilation"...if you haven't tried them out before ordering them...be aware that they are "ventilated" (ie there's fans in the seat cushions)...but they are not COOLED (ie have cooled/conditioned air blowing from the HVAC system out into the seats onto the back/butt/thighs of the seat's occupants). Some owners order them without trying them out and are expecting cold air to blow from the seats...that's not how BMW ventilated seats work. They are designed to have air flowing through the seat to help prevent perspiration accumulating on your back/butt/thighs on long trips/hot days.

The ventilated seat feature is really nice. As noted, it's blowing cabin air through them, but if you also turn the seat heaters on, that does warm the air moving through some in the process. I use mine both winter and summer, especially if it's a longer trip. If the humidity level is high where you live, it can make a huge difference from my experience. If your drive is long enough after getting in while somewhat damp, you'll arrive dried out rather than sweating into the leather seat surfaces.

Great, hadn't thought of that.

Thanks everyone for your thoughtful replies. I've decided that these "super duper" seats are worth the expense.
