Active DEF tank replaced in US after I imported vehicle to Canada

I imported my BMW to Canada a couple years ago and this past summer the following code kept popping up. "49e1" Active tank heating malfunction.

Called BMWNA and asked if that is something they would replace for me. They indicated no problem, call your local shop and get it done. Local BMW shop said no can do. BMWNA said if the vehicle was brought back to US they would replace. Nearest BMW dealership is Spokane, a scenic 8 hour drive from where I live. I called Spokane BMW several times to make sure they had the part in stock and would replace free of charge if I drove down and code was as I indicated. True to their word, I brought the vehicle down on a Monday and by Tuesday afternoon it was ready to go. They even gave me a loaner to drive around in. I played 2 rounds of golf while I was down there visited some of the local bikini baristas, they don't exist where i am from.

I am sure I will have to make another trip down there if my NOX sensors ever decide to pack it in.

Thanks BMW!!

That sounds right. Originally sold in the US, they must -upon presentation to a USA dealer- perform a USA-mandated recall.

Thanks for posting. Sorry the bikini clad baristas didnt know you existed....

OE is Original Equipment aka 'BMW Original Parts' aka 'What you buy at the BMW dealer with a BMW label'

OEM is Original Equipment Manufacturer... EITHER the company that made the OE part or.... A part this is identical to the OE part, but is sold by the OEM under their own label

OEM is not what BMW sells

I was going to do the same with E70 for the NOX sensors, originally purchased in SoCal, but I just didn't have the time to drive down to Buffalo, so I just did it locally. In this case, the time constraint was great than the money constraint
