z4 info help please

I am about to buy my wife a Z4. Well I think I am.

First thing I did was go to bmw's site about ordering one. Well that didn't go so hot since I couldn't find any info on doing that.

After doing some more research they seem to be discontinued. But more searches keep turning up teasing google results about 2019 models. So its is discontinued or not?

Also I find things about a Z5??

The wife wants a 2016 Z4 unless there will be a new one soon. So any info to explain all of this would be GREATLY appreciated since I don't seem to be getting definitive answers on my own

Thanks !

The E89 Z4 is discontinued. The new G29 Z4 will be coming out in the fall of this year.

2016 was the last production year for the Z4. If you can wait until 2019 for a new version, that works. They will be hard to get before the end of this year.

My suggestion would be to search a CPO (Certified Pre-Owned) 2015 or 2016. You can probably find some low mileage garage queens out there. Look on the BNWUSA site and do a model search. The issue with the new Z4s will be many. They are rumored to be significantly higher priced. Since they will share production with Toyota, there may be other coordination issues. Although they look great, they will have a rag top rather than the 2016 and earlier folding hard top. Since it will be a new model, it will be quite a while before you can get a decent discount on them.

A well equipped, low mileage CPO Z4 will sell in the $40K's whereas a new Z4 will probably top $70K.

Well with this info we are going 2016 or older then. Metal folding top is a must. Ragtop will never be an option for us since the z4 had the metal top at one time.

I felt the same way about the folding hardtop. That's why I did European Delivery in the last few months of Z4 production.

That's what I was wanting to do was surprise the wife with the ED on a Z4. Now that is shot down. We are definitely getting a 2013 to 2016 Z4 now and I just hope BMW comes out with something later that is worth us doing an ED before we are to old to enjoy it.

Try to find an SDrive 35i with parking sensors - you'll be thankful to avoid all the parking lot bumper rash under your front spoiler!! Very hard to know just how far to pull into parking spaces with this car!!! Voice of experience.
