Repainting driver armrest E91

Below is the tis for removing the armrest.

Biggest issue is that the armrest is plastic-welded in place. That means that pins are melted down to 'rivet" the armrest onto the door panel.

The instructions below are designed so a new armrest can be installed with nuts, but the original one can't easily be removed and used again.

I need to remove it so I can clean off the old paint and recoat it.

Question: Anyone found a good way to do this without having to buy a replacement?

Just watched a video on this very thing the other day. The guy used JB Weld after drilling the armrest out. Iíve on other parts bought ABS and TPU plastic and heat welded dots of it back on the spots with positive results.
