16 428 gran coupe hatch button issue?

On my car they replaced both motors. I noticed the fob opens the trunk but the button above the plate isn't working with the key in my hand. Is that normal? Pretty sure as long as the key is close the button should work the same as the key fob. Do I need to take it back to the dealer?

Yes take it back to the dealer. I often open the hatch to my wife’s 428iGC using the button by the driver’s door, then close the hatch using the hatch button (her keys are in the house and not with me).

update on this. may be owner error. I can use the fob to open the trunk and the inside button. the button above the plate (outside rubber button, not inside plastic one) does close the trunk. I dont understand why I cant open it with the outside rubber button. doesnt make any sense if thats how bmw designed it.
