E92 335is Door Handle Not Working With First Pull

Hello all,

I have another weird situation for which I cannot find a similar thread. I had to have all of the glass in my 335is coupe replaced due to damage from unrelated repairs at a body shop (it's a long and ridiculous story). The BMW shop I used for the glass replacement got everything in fine, but now there is an issue with the passenger side door that they don't know how to fix (and are acting like they didn't cause). The door unlocks fine with the fob or Comfort Access touch point, but the first pull of the exterior or interior handle does not always open the door. The second pull always opens it if the first one does not. Also, pulling the interior handle with the door locked does mechanically unlock the door with the first pull as usual, but the second pull may or may not open the door.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Maybe I'm not understanding properly but my car always requires 2 tugs of the handle. The first lowers the frameless window a tiny amount, the second opens the door.

From the interior, the door will require TWO pulls of the door handle to open.

From the exterior, the door will require ONE pull of the door handle if using comfort access or after being unlocked from the FOB.

So if I'm reading your post correctly, your interior interaction with the doors are operating as normal. But from the exterior, are you also saying that it requires two pulls?

The outside and inside door handles both are requiring two complete pulls even with the door completely unlocked. At one point I pulled the interior door handle with the door locked and it took five pulls to get it to open - the first pull mechanically unlocked the door as usual and another four pulls it took to finally open the door. This is somewhat intermittent and does not happen every time.

This process starts all over each time you lock then unlock the car. So it goes like this: unlock the doors with fob/Comfort Access/dash button, pull interior or exterior handle twice to open the door. Shut the door. Open the door again on the first pull. The door opens on the first pull every time until the doors are locked again. So if you lock the doors, you're back to pulling twice on the interior or exterior handle to open the door initially.

I've never had the interior door handle take two pulls to open the door when the door is already unlocked. When I start to exit the car, I always use the unlock button on the dash to unlock the doors then pull the handle once to open either one from inside.

Hope this clarifies. I know it's a little confusing. Thanks for the input!

It may be a mechanical issue, needs some graphite lube or something. You will probably need someone to take that door panel off and watch it in operation. Too may guesses, may be simple as needing grease or a part going bad.

Sorry no good help.

Thanks! I'll make the body shop look at it since this started after they replaced the glass in the door.
