Alternator Water pump problem or Battery Recoding?

My son has a 2011 328--I hooked up my Schwaben scanner and it's throwing the following codes:

2ECC/present BSD, message: alternator missing

2E85/not present BSD, message: electric coolant pump missing

2E81/not present DME: electrical coolant pump, speed deviation.

When I spoke with him, he had the battery replaced by a battery shop last year-- but it was clearly not reset/coded. Scanner doesn't show it was replaced, and the replacement battery is 70Ah, scanner say old battery was 90Ah.

Questions:
1) Could not recoding battery cause these codes?
2) If not, any thoughts on what is causing them?
3) Should I recode/register battery now, even though was replaced over a year ago?

Many thanks to all for your assistance.

Are you having real problems, as you obviously have an alternator and a water pump? Could the messages be old?

You have a short in the BSD bus. The three components that share this particular bus are the electric water pump, the alternator and the IBS on the battery. It's probable that the the IBS was damaged when the battery was replaced, unless you have a chafed wire around the alternator and or the water pump.

Thanks to you both for your replies. I have reset the codes and they return after the car is started/driven. I will check the IBS and look for any chafed wires around the alternator and water pump as you suggest.

Do you think I should reprogram/adapt the battery now, even though it was replaced over a year ago?

Sincerely appreciate your assistance.

Yes, you should register the battery correctly. The alternator will adapt it's charging profile to suit, giving you increased battery life.
