The work begins - 2009 335xi Dinan Stage 3

We've had the car for nearly 2 months. Went on a trip to the UK and France in August and come home to a small puddle of oil at the front passenger side of our E90...great, already thinking the worst.

Got the car up on ramps and started to investigate. Take the Dinan oil cooler assembly apart to find the lower AN10 aluminum fitting is cracked and causing the leak. So cleaned everything up, bead blasted the bracket and repainted it with a more robust frame paint, and ordered new AN10 hoses and fittings (should be here tonight).

Since I had the car up, completed an oil change and the CDV delete for our 6 speed manual. I couldn't remove the CDV as the hose was a bit too short, so I removed the restriction in the CDV and reinstalled it, then bled the system.

Next order of business was the headlights. Noticed previously that the driver side quit moving (adaptive), so began to trouble shoot. Unfortunately, I found the covers on both headlights had their seals previously broken, and I could not get either headlight to "reseat" back into the proper functioning position. So I am on the hunt for E90 LC1 Adaptive headlights that won't break the bank...but I'm certain I will have to end up paying retail from Rock Auto. I will do a complete inspection/tear down of the old ones once they are completely removed from the car - I was working from the wheel wells with the liners removed.

Anyway, I enjoy getting to know the cars I own. Did a second inspection and found the oil pan gasket to be fine, no leaks, no sweat...in fact, the rest of the car is very clean underneath which gives me a lot more confidence in the car.

UPDATE

Took the car to an 1/8 mile event on the weekend. Red lit (-0.043 reaction) to lose out in the quarter finals to my friend. Car drove awesome and shifted so much better with the CDV delete...smooth into 2nd every time. Clutch is very stout on these cars, even with an aggressive 4000 rpm launch, it would grab hard and drop the rpms too low unless I attempted to slip the clutch just a little. Anyway, didn't set any record breaking times, but had fun as it is my local car club's event they just started.

Also found a used headlight in Canada in working order. Going to replace the driver side this weekend and see if I can make the passenger side work for the foreseeable future. Will keep an eye out for a good deal on a passenger headlight just in case.

9.3 1/8 mile - wasn't launching for full effect, so 60' was only 2.1x where I could have hit it much harder to get into 1.9s or better. Also clutching every shift, no money shifts. Overall not disappointed, but going to look at a different tune for sure. Won't likely race our 335 again, was just all that was ready for this event - will take the Camaro next time
