Swap to sport seats?

Has anyone swapped out regular seats for Sports seats?

Would they function with the seat wire loom?

1998 504ia with 157500 miles!

She still eats 5.0 liter and hemi's vehicles every day!

I am so tired of my seats, yes I have fixed the twisted seat problem!

Still a pain!!

Just want a change!

There is a different connector for different model years FWIU. I think if you source sports seats from a 1998 you should be good to go in terms of a swap, but a 2003 for example may have a different wire loom and connector.

IMHO, sport seats are not for the daily driver, because of the bolster.

The padding in your seat may be flaccid. A new pad can be had for about $300.

Thanks!

Thanks!

It is not a daily driver!

I really do not drive that much any more.

My seats are firm as they should be!

I hate how they adjust, the twisted seat fixed made the back uncomfortable and hard to adjust, the seat bolster does help, the seat now hits me right were I have a back injury.

I thought maybe switching to sport seats might be more comfortable.

Hi, I swapped out a regular comfort seat in my 2001 530i for a sport seat with the extendable leg supports. way more comfortable and sporty. sourced it from the junkyard for $50

It was plug and play. The car I pulled from was a 2001-02 I think.

My wagon has the e39 regular 10 way adjustable comfort seats, and my wife has the sport seats in her e39 sedan. To be honest, after a 10 minute ride in the sport seats, I already can't wait to jump out the car. Very uncomfortable in my opinion. A night and day difference when I switch driving between my wagon and my wifes e39.

I plan to eventually get e38 contour seats for my wagon, as I plan on keeping that car for longer. Might even settle for the comfort seats as I don't really care for the adjustable thigh supports.

I would LOVE to score some seats with the drink tray and vanity mirror. But not sure of it's rarity or anything

i think the switchover date for the seat connector happened mid 99 MY. however the connectors can be swapped with the proper wiring references.

I put the 18 way adjustable E38 seats in my 2003 E39 Touring. I have seen them referred to here as the "sport/comfy" seats. Anyway, they are the ones with the upper back adjustment.

I love them as a driver. My wife just goes "ahhhhh" every time she gets in the car after not being in it for a while. However, they were meant for a vehicle with a longer distance between the front and rear seats. They don't have a concave knee accommodation for back seat passengers. I'm 6'2" and can sit behind my seat adjusted for me to drive. But, getting in and out isn't so nice. Once in the rear seat things are ok. My son is off at college so it really is just the two of us and this isn't an issue. I wanted to make sure though that people reading this thread are aware of the seat back design difference.

+1 on these. They're great. My SO noticed them right away and went: "Ohhh..."

Do be aware there's a connector difference. I think mid '99 they changed from round to rectangular. Provided you get those right they're an easy bolt in.

The guy i bought them from threw in a center armrest to match them. Also recommended. Not quite a bolt in.

Totally depends on the owner. I much prefer the seat bolsters on the sport seats. I've been daily driving mine for 16+ years and almost 300k miles (bought used 2001 in 2003) But most Americans are heavier and prefer the flatter seat bottom for their girth. I am currently shopping for a used 2018 or 2019 M550i and notice most of the inventory is "comfort" seats, not the Dakota leather sport seats. The seat back bolsters are the same, but the comfort seats have flatter seat bottom bolsters and softer padding in the back and seat bottom. Comfort will also have in addition to heat, ventilation and massage functions. No thanks.
