Speed limit info on UK M6 privately imported to Australia

I bought a 2015 M6 when I lived and worked in London two years ago. Speed limit info was displayed on the heads up display but this hasn't worked since I privately shipped the car to Australia. Instead of the current speed limit being displayed there are instead three dashes inside the red circle (see image attached). Is this a configuration issue or is the UK system incompatible with Australian road signs?

The first BMW dealer I approached with this issue could not resolve the problem. This has now been resolved by a different dealer as a simple programming change.
