Looking at a 328i

Like the title says, I'm looking at a possible purchase of a 328i. What are the common known troubles with this model. I currently own a 2000 740il for the past 6 years and have fixed quite a few things on this car myself. I'm looking for pro's and cons on the 328i. Is there a specific year range to avoid? One that I am looking at, have driven and would like to buy is a 2009 model.

Accessory belt. Change it immediately with tensioner.
Valve cover gasket.
Oil filter housing gasket.
Oil pan gasket.
Water pump is ok, better than N55, but plan 80-100k lifespan. Some do more, some do less.
And as any BMW, be proactive.

Great links. The last one was the most informative. I suppose I will need to either verify one I am interested in has never shredded a belt, or plan to replace the associated gaskets and tensioners to make sure this doenst happen anytime soon after purchasing.

Thanks,
This sounds like a plan of action I will take right after a purchase if there is no proof it has already been done.

Spend a little more - click on prevention link in my post above.

You don't mention mileage & maint history - more info would be good. Don't bother to change the belt if low mileage unless something's leaking that can be on the belt or it's clear it needs replacement. Usual culprit's an oil leak.

I have a few that I'm looking at but the one I leaning towards has 120k on the odometer. So based on everything I'm reading here it's imperative that I either verify these fixes have been done, or plan to do them soon after buying.
