The RDS and PTY function on my radio?

Can anyone have a breakdown of what these 2 do together or independently?
Anywhere in the manual I can find it?
Or can someone open this file and post it up or send it to me:

RADIO

Thanks folks.

Just install Adobe or Foxit and you can read it yourself after a download there.

And here's what Radio Data System (RDS) and PTY (Program Type) are all about***********: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radio_Data_System

Both are FM only, and work together. PTY is 'rock' 'sports' 'news' etc.

And no... I have not checked it on mine yet. And it is not in that manual. Go figure!

Jonny, that info is in the supplemental manual that is specific to the radio/audio system. I can show you that manual if we get a Portland meet going here in the future. i would scan it, but i don't have my scanner set-up yet.

Checked mine over lunch. Press the RDS button to turn it on when you are in FM. A * will show beside it.

If there is program type data being broadcast for the station, pressing PTY will display that the rock station you are listening to is a 'rock' station -- it replaces the call freqency for the station. Pretty cool, huh?

It will display 'No PTY' if:
1) there is no PTY data being broadcast,
or
2) it is confused and really thinks that it is a 'smooth jazz' station

Not sure how it works without NAV, but with RDS and PTY on with the NAV screen, they song type, artist, and song title are all displayed in a 2 second rotation.
