Z4 Gauge Panel - First look

Here are the first pics of a finished unit in an M Coupe (thanks Schwank!). If I find some free time I will finalize the pricing in the next few days.

That does indeed look good. Did you guys find a way to mount the 12vdc power point elsewhere (///mf'n ///mobility kit...)?

Very nice Andy!

I will be watching for your pricing details.

My new black leather short shift knob works great!

Best!

My main goal was the gauges. If I had a Z4, I would relocate the power adapter to the glovebox. Or delete all together.

I really like the quality of the install, but I must have the power port. I'm also quite fond of the ashtray as I use it to hold my little camera when I want to take pics from the road. I'm sure you'll sell some to more serious track junkies

Looks exceptionall - but the lack of 12v makes it a problem for me - since I need that to power phone, camera, TomTom, pda or whatever

Looks great! Can't wait for pricing and an estimate of installation time. Any other ideas out there on where to relocate the power adapter?

Replace the Airbag off warning light which is useless IMO. Relocating the power receptacle is not that big of a deal.

Looks great in person, my wife is already asking how much it costs

Maybe you could relocate the power outlet to the almost useless space between the seats.

I think if people have problems with the power socket, the price is going to be a much bigger issue.

This is the best location for the power socket:

You might just want to include a DIY for relocating the power socket. This project is something I would ask my shop to do, and the more guidance they have, the better the result will be.

Isn't the install for this something like 6 hours? And I think you were saying somewhere around $400 for the panel, gauges, and sender units some time ago? If that figure hasn't gone up and an indy shop does the work, then it's a $1000 mod - definitely not inexpensive as far as my budget goes.

I will probably sell a replacement panel (the one from my last post) with the socket installed with longer wires. Then you replace the panel and connect the harness. I just need a few more hours in the day to plan it out. This will be available in stock form or with the Aux In jack.

We will have different kits that will be priced differently. Once I have a few minutes of free time, I will get all the pricing finished and post that information. As far as installation time, S54 owners are in trouble with the install if they install an oil pressure gauge as the installation is very involved.

The plan right now is to offer the following complete kits [everything you need to install - this is in addition to more basic panel only kits]:
Complete Kit 1: Oil Pressure, Oil Temp and Voltmeter, Wiring, Instructions, Gauge Panel, etc.
Complete Kit 2: Oil Temp, Voltmeter and Water Temp, Wiring, Instructions, Gauge Panel, etc.

I recommend Kit 2 for most S54 owners as you are not removing half the engine to install senders.

Too bad you couldn't have angled them a bit, that's going to be hard to read at a glance (and without leaning forward).

They are angled up at a 7 degree angle. They are not biased towards the driver, because that would force us to make a RHD and LHD mold. The good news is however, if you have to have them angled (and we don't think it is necessary in real life) you can use VDO angle adapter rings and spin them as you please. They sell in 2 packs for about $10/pair and are OEM VDO parts. I can provide part number if needed.

We will figure out a solution to the lighter relocation.

I can install the gauges and senders (at least the first kit) for free if you bring the car to me in Seattle.

Honestly, who really wants a power cable dangling anywhere out of the center console? I'd personally move it underdash.

Popping it in that panel means that it could put back to stock relatively easily ...
