PuMA is a worldwide BMW database of all reported problems and most with the their appropriate fixes. I think the acronym means Problem and Measures management Aftersales or in German: Problem und Mebnahmenmanagement Aftersales.

if you vehicle has been at the dealer for certain issues that need authorization from higher power, or the tech is having a problem and needs engineers higher up to give their input, a puma case is opened... i'm not sure if it pertains only to warranty or not... your dealer will submit the information to open the case... corporate offices will communicate a resolution etc etc... i believe warranty repairs must also be approved via puma...

PUMA are trouble-cases that the dealers send to the guys up in the Ivory Tower for authorization for high dollar repairs....
