SWID Reader - failing to read code - IFH-0009 error

Hi,

I have a BMW 2011 320D and like many others would like to be able to code stuff.

For me i'm hoping to start by using SWID Reader to read off my 0001b code to then get an FSC for latest map updates.

My setup is as follows:

Environment: Win XP running in a Virtual Machine

Cable: from EUAUTOHAUS.COM here - not cheap and supposedly with lifetime guarantee

Software: links kindly provided by Shawn on here SW tools 2.12 etc

DATEN - V49 but currently downloading 51.0

EDIABAS.INI : remote host set to 192.168.68.1 PORT to 6801
OBD.INI - STD:OBD and COM port to 1 which is port cable connects on - confirmed

SWID reader is running from ediabas/bin and I copied the 4 files to the ECU directory.

So, my symtoms are:

My cable connection appears to be all good. I use DCAN tools and successfully setup the interface on 500 KBITs D-CAN immediately after plugging into OBD port in the car whilst LED is on.

Now I start SWID reader E series and reader confirms Ignition on and then on to read VIN and finally try to grab the code which then outputs the error IFH-0009 as further below.

Now I know i've not mentioned INPA ... perhaps mistakenly i'm thinking that if SWID cannot read then nothing will? Correct me if i'm wrong here?

For info INPA does detect ignition state but airbag read fails with not found object or similar not gone any further with this for now.

Personally im suspecting my cable may be the issue - can anyone offer any assistance.

tia

Pete

SWID Reader with DCAN is known not to work. You need to use ICOM.

Most FSC Code sellers only need your VIN, so pulling your 1B file isn't even needed.

Thank you Shawn I wasn't aware of that.

That being the case maybe my coding setup and cable is in fact good - I need to test further.

Is ICOM a tool that is available to us mere mortals from anywhere?

How does ICOM differ from INPA and NCS Expert?

cheers

Pete

Very wishful thinking... will the SWID reader works with enet cable on E-series car? If not, what cable do I need? Is there any additional software needed for E-series? I've only been working with E-Sys on F series car!

Disclaimer: I'm just helping a friend to do this, doesn't own the car, so cannot even experiment myself

SWID Reader will not work with ENET and Exx car, and DCAN doesn;t work like it should, which leaves ICOM.

Additional Exx software for what? All Exx software except Tool32, INPA and ISTA is different than Fxx. What are you trying to do?

I just want to download the 1B file from the E84-X1. the car was pretty new. And the shop i get my enet cable from state on their web that enet cable works for late e-series car. I will try nonetheless, just want to see if it's true. And if I need a separate cable and it cost as much as the enet cable, then i don't mind getting it

Knock yourself out, but ENET will not work with Exx. Unfortunately, neither will DCAN for some strange reason, which leaves ICOM.

Just PM me the VIN. I can make this very easy for you.

My understanding is that SWID Reader does not work with DCAN Cable for Exx cars beginning 03/2007, and ICOM must be used.

It looks like that this set is very expensive...so this leaves us only the chance to pay those code sellers to get fsc code?

Yes, to buy ICOM for the sole purpose of getting 1B file from Head Unit would be ridiculous. It would be much cheaper to just by Map Update code every year. The generator is useless if you can't get the 1B / DE file.

You need ICOM to read the 1b file from E chassis.

And that is why it is just cheaper and Easier to just buy an inexpensive Map Update code than mess with it.

Are you able to help with FSC codes for European maps? I have just spent hours trying to get a DCAN cable to work so that I could pull the 1b file and finally found your post saying a different cable was required!!

There's an ICOM emulator floating around somewhere. I download it, but no idea how to use it. Would it work for getting the 1B file?
