Exclamation BMW-530i 2008 Model Gulf Specs: Remote control battery discharged

Hi,

I own BMW-530i 2008 Model Gulf Specs full options, Since few days its giving warning in the dash board panel that "Remote Control Battery Discharged". I have read in another threads that for the cars which have comfort access enabled battery in the key either can be replaced or can be recharged by inserting it into key slot. I always used to insert in the key in the key slot instead of using comfort access.

My key doesnt have any slot for battery to replace it. I even tried using new unused spare key I have but even then dashboard still shows the message "Remote control battery discharged"

My Key No: BMW 6986585-03 (868 MHz)

Please help how to get rid of this warning.

Thanks,
Sravan

You can easily replace the battery in the key itself -- there is a tab on the back of it which you can remove with a coin

The battery that goes inside is similar to a calculator battery (VL2020 I think?) and should be easy to find

Hi,

My key doesn't have any opening which allow me to change the battery. Also today I used my new spare key by inserting it in key slot. But even then the dash board showed "Remote Control Battery Discharged" warning.

Please help, if anybody has similar issue.

Thanks,
Sravan

If your key has a battery compartment in the back then it has CA and the battery is replaceable, if it does not have a compartment for a battery then it does not have CA.

Heres a picture:

Hi,

So I don't have the battery compartment in my key and I don't CA. My key look like the one on the rightside without black arrow. That's fine but then why my dash board started popping up warning message that "Remote Control Battery Discharged"? I never used CA in my car and always used to keep the key in key slot and drive. But since 2days I am getting this message all of a sudden.

Thanks,
Sravan

If your key is as you described and you have Comfort Access, you have the wrong key. A car with CA will not charge the key. it must be replaced periodically.

Hi,

I don't have CA equipped in my car I can't open doors without unlocking in remote control. My key is a regular key. But what surprised me is once I started my car by keeping the key in key slot and stopped, removed key from key slot and immediately tried starting car and it started (Only once). This made me to think if I have a CA in my car. Its ok now CA is not my concern, its the warning that its popping up in dash board "Battery of remote control with integrated key discharged.

Please help.

Thanks,
Sravan

Yes, this is possible without CA key fob. It is only good for like 10-15 seconds. So what you're needing is a new key fob. The battery is recharged in the slot but still it is only good for so long. As far as your spare key goes, if it went unused for a fair amount of time, then it too went dead from lack of recharge. The fall back of this system is what you're seeing, it won't remotely do anything but it will physically let you still start the car. So again, new fobs...sorry.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. I used my spare key 2-3months back which also showing the same warning now. You mean to say that I need to change both my keys to get rid of that warning? They wont get charged while on drive (keyed in) intermittently?

Thanks,
Sravan
