E30 (1982 - 1993)
God's Chariot. The E30 was produced primarily from 1982 through 1991. The cabriolet was the one exception which was produced through 1993.

Shocks and struts or coilovers?

Just as it says... what are the pros and cons of both? Thanks for the input.

http://www.ground-control-store.com/...egory.php/CA=8 go to this link. Ground control makes suspension for the e30. They also sell camber plates to properly align the car. Not sure if it's needed or not.

The benefit of a coilover system is that the springs and shock/strut valving spring rates are matched to each other.

While shocks/struts alone may be valved for lowering springs, there are many different lowering springs available that offer different spring sizes and rates.

Another benefit to a coilover system is its adjustability. The most basic coilover kits offer at least ride height adjustment. As you get more advanced packages, you can adjust damper, rebound, etc in addition to height.

Camber plates are only necessary if you want to change camber on the fly. People normally install these for track use so they can quickly set more negative camber for the track. And when they get back onto the street, they can dial the camber back out so there is decent tire wear.

All BMWs from the factory do NOT have front camber adjustment. You can cheat and oval out the holes in the strut tower to move the strut hats in to gain negative camber but there is no reference to go by to see what kind of adjustment you're making. With most camber plates, there is some type of reference marked on the plate to indicate changes in camber.

^ May I add that coil-overs allow for corner balancing as well...

Coils if you will track the car. I would go with H&R Race and Bilstein Sport's of you want a well-balanced, fun street performance setup. Fixed camber plates too. 22mm front / 19mm rear sways of your choosing.
