Headlight leveling switch location?

My headlight leveling switch has a broken arm and missing metal connecting rod and I'm not so sure it's in the right place. On my 2002 540i it was bolted to a piece of plastic near the passenger side lower control arm. In the salvage yard i picked up a new switch and leveling arm but it was mounted on a plate connected to the inner bolt for the same lower control arm. That was on a 2000 528i. Did the PO for my car move the switch for some reason? Should my switch also be mounted on a plate connected to that bolt? Picture?

Im just guessing here but could it be different based on which suspension you have?

Did you pull up the diagram for each to even see if they use the same sensor?

Again, I'm guessing...I could be talking out the side of my neck.

I think I found my answer on RealOEM.

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=31_0265

Item #2 is the mounting bracket which is also listed for the 540i. And yes, there are different level sensors for the regular and sport suspension.

Thank you.

WOW...that's an interesting diagram...3 illustrations with sensors & brackets etc. Gotta read that one carefully to make sure you're getting the correct parts you need.

lol. I realized that after looking at the diagram for a while. I do have a non-sport but I put on sport springs. I picked up the sensor and connecting arm for the sport suspension but forgot the bracket. Gotta go back for that.
