Thermostat recall

I have 2013 328i and got thermostat recall done yesterday while doing my scheduled oil change. I googled it and only seen this recall mentioned for 5 series last year, but did not see anything so far for 328i. SA did not explain much other than it is not a must do. Anyone have more details?

Thanks!

Haven't heard about a "recall" on the thermostat but ours triggered the CEL a couple months ago and the part was back ordered for a couple weeks. Apparently a defective thermostat affecting a number of the earlier F3x's, it was not routing the correct coolant temperature into the engine hence the CEL. The car ran normal - just had to look at that alert light for a few weeks.

Mine was replaced last year and took the dealer about 2 weeks to get the part, which I found very odd.

My SEL light came on about a year ago. Turns out it was the thermostat. It got replaced within 2 days and everything is going smoothly. Car is a MY2014 328i.

My CEL came on last week. It ended up being the thermostat as well. Part has been ordered and will be replaced when it arrives.

Wish I knew about this the three times I tried to get the dealer to fix the lack of heat on my 2014 X3. That was one of the main reasons I traded it in, hated freezing my ass off in the winter. Second reason was a leaky sunroof that would create mold and stink on sunny days after rainy days. Enjoying a F31 now at least. Heat works great, sunroof doesn't leak/smell, and it corners and rides much nicer!

The thermostat in this SIB seems to be for engine coolant temperature instead of cabin ambient temperature.

Wasn't aware of the issue until I took my '14 F30 in for annual service. SA indicated they would take care of it provided the part was in stock (which it was)...apparently back-ordered from Germany.

I assume this was the engine thermostat as the work order indicates antifreeze/coolant was added.

I got a CEL. BT tool shows 1D2401 Map Thermostat, activation, short circuit to B+. Sounds like I have a bad thermostat. Does anyone know if this SIB is a recall? I'm outside my factory warranty at 59K miles.

Thanks,
Dan

Yes the thermostat SIB is a technical campaign, just ask the SA to read your key to check.

Had my regular service done 3 weeks ago, dealer changed the thermostat on the recall. Complete service took an hour with T-stat change.

I have a 2014 and just got the check engine light and engine was stalling a few times between gear changes. I put it into Sport and it went away but then came on a few minutes after. Switched back to Comfort and the stalling went away but the light is still on...

Any ideas?

BMW NA has issued an Extended Life Warranty (ELW) on the thermostat. You can check your vehicle at bmw-rp.com to see if your car is included, or ask your dealership to pull a key report which will show all BMW NA issued ELW for your vehicle. Of note, my 2013 also showed an ELW for the N20 Leak Diagnosis Module (NVLD), too.
