Report: The BMW M2 Competition is On its Way

Bless the gods of sports cars, the M2 is getting a Competition model, according to a leaked internal document.

The document is nothing new, and was previously the cause of some Toyota-Supra-focused headlines, but has since been mined for more information.

The latest tidbit about M2 Competition also includes the thrilling detail that it will be offered with both a manual and another, irrelevant type of transmission.

It seems that the Competition will fit in the lineup above the regular M2, but below the rumored M2 CS, which would have the M3/4’s 3.0-liter I6, making about 400 hp. If that wasn’t silly enough for you, BMW is also rumored to be making an M2 GTS, that would make 444 hp, using the same 3.0-liter mill from the M4 GTS, because why not?

Whether or not all of this actually moves from the imaginative realm of rumors to the highly exclusive realm of reality remains to be seen, but we can’t help getting excited at the possibility of these cars. BMW would be trading in the tried and true method of classics creation—that is, shoehorning big engines into little cars.

Car and Driver, which first reported on the M2 Competition, also writes that the next generation 3-series will be joined by an M340i and that the 8-series will come with a choice of 6 and 8 cylinder engines, which sounds about right.

This is what the M2 should have been to begin with.
Looks like theyre doing away with base model 340s and making them all M340s like they did with the 2 series
