BMW is starting the teasing early on this latest upcoming new model. The BMW 2 Series is getting a Gran Coupe. That's the four-door coupe version if you're having trouble keeping up with BMW naming.

The new car is set to be announced during the company's annual results conference, but the world debut is set for the Los Angeles auto show this November. Market launch is set for spring next year.

The 2 Series Gran Coupe is a big departure from the rest of the 2 lineup. This one's a front-driver. Yup, you read that right. BMW says that it "shares a multitude of technological developments with the new BMW 1 Series. The third-generation of which will also be revealed later this year.

While BMW is only offering us a tease of the car right now, the rear doors and the sloping roofline are readily apparent. With a silhouette that looks more than vaguely Alfa Giulia.

BMW says that this will be a global offering, which will make it the first front-drive BMW to be sold in the US. It looks to be a competitor for the Mercedes-Benz CLA. Expect it to arrive with a turbocharged 2.0L four, or maybe even one of BMW's three-pots, but don't expect this one to get a manual gearbox._a2_
