Time flies when you're having fun. Just ask BMW. This year marks 35 years of the ubersedan M5. So they're making a sinister-looking special edition to mark the occasion.

The M5 Edition 35 Years starts out with a BMW M5 Competition. That means 625 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque from the twin-turbo 4.0L V8. Sent to all-four wheels through an eight-speed automatic, but with the drift mode that'll let you send it all to the rear tires so you can have more smokey fun.

To make the 35 Years special, BMW sent the car to the Individual customization arm of the automaker. They had their way with some special trims and paint. All of the cars will come in Frozen Dark Grey metallic. It has a special pigmentation that gives it a matt surface. There are new 20-inch M wheels with a Y-spoke design and graphite grey paint. The finish and wheel design are both special edition only. The brake calipers are gloss black, but pick the carbon ceramics and get a gold finish.

On the inside, the car has BMW Individual full Merino leather trim. Black, again, with beige contrast seams and stitching. The interior trim is an aluminum carbon structure with a gold anodized look. It's the first time BMW has used the gold weave, which it has put on the instrument panel, doors, and the center console.

The only 35th edition badges are door sill finishers and a laser engraving on the cupholder lid. The Executive Package and M Driver's package, usually optional, will come standard on the 35s.

This special edition is limited to just 350 cars globally. It will become available in July._a2_
